What Does Faith in God Really Mean?
In the Bible, faith is not defined as optimism, wishful thinking, or blind belief. Scripture presents faith as a reasoned trust in God based on who He is and what He has spoken. True faith rests on God’s word, not on feelings, circumstances, or personal confidence.
Because faith is central to salvation and Christian life, the Bible explains it carefully. Misunderstanding faith leads either to self-reliance or to empty belief without obedience.
1) The Biblical Definition of Faith
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)The Greek word translated “faith” is pistis (πίστις), meaning trust, reliance, or confidence. Faith is not uncertainty; it is assurance grounded in God’s promises.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
